International Favour pt1: The Call to Action

Greetings Cannabals, I have a question for ya’all… What’s the biggest favour you’ve ever done for someone?

Allow me to tell you about mine.
It all started last Wednesday (Nov 10), when after a tiring day of moving leaves around the cemetery I got home and found a message on my machine from a friend. Normally hearing from her is a good thing, however she left the country on vacation and was calling me from Ireland looking for help. BIG help. She forgot to pack her second Passport, and needed me to send it to her.
This was around 3PM, and with my call to action received I moved to the kitchen and started brewing some coffee… I was already falling asleep on the trip home from work, and knew I was going to need a cup in my belly before I left (as well as a traveler) if I was going to do this.
Coffee down and packed, I printed a copy of the follow up email she sent, telling me where the passport was and what it looked like.
as an aside, I’m glad that the new printer is already making itself useful.

Out the door, I get down to the bus stop confident that I’ll at least be able to grab an Express bus and keep well ahead of rush hour going to her apartment, and have enough time on my transfer to get a free ride home when I was done. (The trip is about 1 hour, and I have a 2 hour transfer window.) This is where the challenges begin. Instead of the normal 20 minute trip to the station, I was treated to an excruciating hour and fifteen minute crawl. The combination of some ass-hat in a white sports car merging into the front end of a bus blocking off the middle-right hand lane followed shortly thereafter by a stretch of construction on the 2 left land lanes had traffic completely locked down as angry drivers fought to steal every inch the could from each other during the ensuing chaos. Worst part of it was not knowing why we stopped, driver wasn’t saying anything… don’t even know if he knew what was going on at the time. Would have thought someone would have informed dispatch, who would then inform the driver, who could then let the paying customers know why they aren’t getting what they paid for…

The trip out of the station was great, once the bus showed up. Turns out there was one sitting out of service, because the relief driver was caught in the same mess that I was in, on a bus somewhere behind me. So she was moving like a bat out of hell, trying to make up for lost time where possible. It was nice to have a sense that I was FINALLY moving!
